ADVERTISING TO UX

Tricia Pascua

What’s your career background?

I have a degree in Fine Arts majoring in Advertising Arts, and directly after I graduated, I worked as an Art Director in an Advertising agency for 8 years.

What interested you about UX?

After leaving Advertising, I also moved to Germany. Considering all the changes, I felt like it’s the best time to finally try new things and in my search for that „new thing“, I discovered UX. What interested me in it is that it is like a combination of the things I like doing and the things I still wanted to learn. It’s a mix of creative and analytic, and especially during these times, I think it’s interesting that it is an evolving field and it is something of growing importance which, I believe, makes it a fulfilling career.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin is very hands-on and easy to talk to. He’s very approachable and he’s always ready to answer my questions. In every call I had with him, I learned new things about what’s exactly happening on the field itself. I could really feel his dedication in guiding me as a UX newbie through his advice and stories. He’s even willing to talk in any case of (UX) emergencies. He also takes his time in explaining things that I don’t understand, which is very important especially to a newbie like me.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Definitely. He has guided me from the 1st day I started learning UX up to the day I got my job offer. My portfolio improved tremendously. His tips and tricks were very useful and because of his experience in the field, I know I can rely on his words. Indeed, with his guidance, I got my first UX job in 1.5 months!

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

Absolutely! I feel very lucky to have him as my mentor. He gives constructive criticisms, which helped me improve my work, but he also never forgets to commend the nice things I’ve done, which helped boost my confidence. I can say he really went the extra mile to prepare me not just with my portfolio, but also with my expectations in the UX field. As a newbie, I feel more ready thanks to his mentorship.
