ARCHITECTURE TO UX

Sayma Sultana

What’s your career background?

I have a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, worked in a digital marketing agency as a trainee, and after that a Junior UX Designer.

What interested you about UX?

When I first started working, I realized UX design has a lot to do with human behavior and empathy rather than making interfaces look cool.  Since then, a lot of learning, re-learning, and un-learning have taken place for me to actually start practicing the actual user experience design from the beginning, from being a junior UX designer of an agency before to now again starting from being a Junior UX Designer for an ed-tech company, but this time, with more conviction and confidence. Also with great guidelines from my mentors and career specialists.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin is a focused, sincere, and patient motivator as a mentor. I loved working with him, his knowledge and enthusiasm have made the learning process a great experience. He is humble and warm but super confident at the same time.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Yes. It wouldn’t have been possible without the industry advice, constant reviewing the portfolio, polishing the resume, and doing an entire project for the portfolio with him. I have learned how to tackle design challenges and interview questions from him. When I did the project with him I learned a very effective and simplified process of UX designing which helps me create uncomplicated experiences for the users.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

I would 100% recommend Valentin as a Mentor. I wish him success and more power in the upcoming years. I’m grateful to have Valentin as my mentor. I learned to present my work with impact on the recruiters from him. The conversations with Valentin helped me become a critical thinker and develop a simplified process of UX designer while solving complex problems.
