TEACHING TO UX
Michael Uttley
What’s your career background?
Before UX, I was an ESL Teacher and I also did some translating and writing.
What interested you about UX?
UX combines a lot of things that I find interesting. These include working with technology, working with people, good product design and the fact that it has a lot of depth; I feel like I’m just scratching the surface! It also appealed to me as it’s a collaborative process that involves a lot of people with different expertise across a business.
What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?Â
Valentin brought passion, knowledge and enthusiasm as my UX mentor. He understood and reacted to my particular needs, and it’s clear that he understands that a bespoke approach is needed to all mentees.
Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?Â
Yes, Valentin absolutely helped me secure a role in UX. His portfolio guidance was arguably the most valuable, but it was so much more than that. Design guidance, technical guidance, boosting my confidence and helping me overcome my imposter syndrome; I couldn’t have done it without him.
Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?Â
I would 100% genuinely recommend Valentin, for the following reasons; the industry knowledge and experience he brings (especially for people like me, changing their careers), his enthusiasm, his no-nonsense & step-by-step approach and his ability to boost students’ confidence and giving them the correct guidance to grow quickly. Thanks again Valentin!
