What’s your career background?

I have a really varied background. I studied French and Spanish and I then did a Master’s in International Relations at Sheffield University.

After this I sort of fell into Financial Services, but it just wasn’t for me. I wanted to help people but also wanted a more creative role. After some time working as a ski instructor in Canada, I took the plunge and invested in a UX Immersion course – best decision of my life!

What interested you about UX?

I love that you use a process to solve real problems. For me, UX is the perfect combination of creativity, connecting with people and business skills. It’s varied and exciting, and you get to make a real difference.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin went above and beyond! He was always on hand to help whenever I needed it. Right from the offset, he laid out a clear pathway to take me from novice to job ready designer, and I felt like he supported me all the way through it. He is so friendly and approachable – I never felt silly asking him for help.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

I would say Valentin was one of the main reasons I was able to land a role in UX. He set me up for success. By the time it came to interviews and design challenges, I felt confident in my knowledge and my ability, and that all comes down to my time working with Valentin.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

Why? 100% yes! Starting a career in UX is incredible, but it’s a lot of work and there will be bumps along the way. Having a mentor is invaluable, and Valentin is the expert in smoothing out these bumps. He’ll give you the advice, knowledge, and confidence you need. But most importantly, he’ll give you the direction and keep you on the path to success.
