HOSPITALITY TO UX

Adam Holt

What’s your career background?

My career history has been quite diverse based on multimedia production, design, travel, retail, hospitality and now a UX designer.

What interested you about UX?

UX is like a puzzle that needs to be solved. I love challenges and user experience design scratches that itch, you need to figure out all the pieces and make them fit. I also like making people’s lives easier, all of us have had to use a website that we hated. I love that I can work to make those things better.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin was always friendly and excited to help, it always felt like I could ask questions even if they felt silly. He had a wealth of knowledge about design and how to streamline my working style. Our chats were never boring and had an enthusiasm that excited me about UX design.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Valentin helped me immensely, He gave me professional guidance about what the roles might be like, how I should go about preparing for interviews and most importantly a clear roadmap of things I should focus on. He worked with me on my portfolio and gave amazing guidance on how to present case studies which were especially for landing my first job.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

Absolutely I would! He is a pleasure to work with and has a great knowledge of design. I think my favourite thing was his ability to make things simple. I have found this really useful in my career so far, make things clear and understandable and people will love you for that. You can learn the basics of UX just by reading free content online but Valentin bought real life to the subject and set me up for success.
