MARKETING TO UX

Melanie Hattwig

What’s your career background?

I studied Media & Design Management, which combines design, project management and business . After that I founded my own software start-up 3 years ago. I was basically responsible for all tasks concerning marketing & design. After these 3 years I was searching for a new opportunity and wanted to work for a bigger company.

What interested you about UX?

During the first months of being a founder of a new company I was often asking myself: How can we develop a product people actually need? And how do we know which features are the most important to be successful? And that’s how I made my way into UX. With the help of user-centered decision making it was much easier to find important features, plan a roadmap and also evaluate how users respond to our new software.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

I really liked that Valentin was showing me a path through the design jungle out there. When you start with UX it’s super hard to   understand what’s important to learn, what companies really require and I think – most importantly – how to design a sophisticated portfolio. Valentin was showing me step by step what I need to do to get a job in UX design. During this process he helped me understand everything by telling me his real-world experiences. He was also showing me a lot of good examples to strengthen my visual intuition.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Yes, I’m working as a full-time UI/UX designer for almost a month now.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

Yes, for sure! Valentin will really help you to get a job as a UX designer in no time. He’s there for you during every step in this process and is always open to your questions when you need support. If you are looking for a strong mentor, who knows how the industry is working, Valentin is the right choice for you!
