GRAPHIC TO UX

Giulia Gushikem

What’s your career background?

I have a career background in Graphic Design. I did a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design in Brazil and worked in companies in Brazil and Germany.

What interested you about UX?

My interest in UX came from my curiosity about how to make digital experiences better. I came across usability problems in my current work and I wanted to understand and learn how to work on these problems. This is when I found out about UX and decided to take the course in UX Design from CareerFoundry.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin is a guy who sees potential in people. He is an experienced UX Designer, and he is open and loves to share his ideas and experiences with people. Before I started my UX course, I felt often times that I wasn’t good enough or wasn’t capable of it. He has a very good ability to find out the good things you as a designer can offer and give you the motivation you need to launch yourself in a new career path. Because he sees the big picture, he doesn’t get discouraged by small problems or issues you may be facing in your journey. He sees ahead and will help you look at your career with a bright vision. In other words, if you want someone to motivate you, to lift you up, and to have a genuine interest in wanting to boost your career, Valentin Brixner is the guy you should call.

Studying remotely, during a pandemic was at times overwhelming and isolating, but Valentin’s enthusiasm and reassurance kept me working towards my goals, and we had fun along the way. I felt that I got really valuable industry insight from Valentin and this is what ultimately set me up for success.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Short answer is YES. He helped me get my first job position in my UX role. He helped me believe in myself and my potential and gave me the confidence and boost I needed to apply to jobs, be fearless, and get my reposition as a UX/UI Designer as an immigrant in the German market.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

I would definitely recommend Valentin Brixner as a mentor. His optimism, his bright vision, and genuine curiosity and openness are exactly what people need to see the big picture in their careers and the potential they have to offer.
