DENTAL TO UX

Belinda Villamor-Atrache

What’s your career background?

For the past 7 years, I worked as a dental hygienist but spent at least 13 years in the dental field. During my time as a dental hygienist, I started my own event planning business to keep in touch with my creative side.

What interested you about UX?

Moving to a new country followed a transition in careers. What interested me most about UX was the fact that it would spark my inner creativity and bring forth new challenges on a daily basis.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Throughout the course of Valentin being my mentor, I always found our sessions comfortable and productive. I appreciate his honesty and the way he delivered constructive feedback. I always left each session with a piece of new knowledge. I felt very fortunate to have found a mentor that is dedicated and excited with watching me grow and succeed as a UX Designer!

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Valentin supported me throughout the job search, from the very beginning until I landed a role. He helped me build a portfolio from scratch, shared encouraging words and valuable industry advice, and introduced me to a spreadsheet that he created to help me stay on track while applying/interviewing.

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

I would definitely recommend Valentin as a mentor because he is truly dedicated and passionate about helping new designers break into the industry. He was very patient, kind and approachable. Although our mentor sessions have come to an end, Valid checks in when he can, and always shows genuine support and excitement with new updates I provide!
