GRAPHIC TO UX

Mio Irving

What’s your career background?

I have a degree in graphic design and have worked in the field for 3 years before deciding to make a career shift.

What interested you about UX?

I worked at a tech company in which I had many touchpoints with UX designers. I was instantly intrigued by their fluid role among various teams and stakeholders and how they translated user insights into functional and intuitive designs. Being a natural problem-solver myself, I was more and more drawn to their methods of problem-solving.

What did you like about Valentin as being your UX mentor?

Valentin is an exceptional mentor; he has the ability to cut to the core of a problem quickly, and to give high quality feedback and advice on a whim. He is supportive, encouraging and such a source of positivity every single step of the way. He helped me to develop my self-confidence in my skills and work, and for that I am endlessly grateful.

Did Valentin help you to get a UX role?

Valentin supported me from the very beginning stages of preparing a quality portfolio and CV, to tackling interviews and creative challenges, to finally signing the contract for my first UX job. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and motivating mentor!

Would you recommend Valentin as a mentor to others?

110%. Valentin knows exactly what steps his students need to take to make a career change into UX design a reality. Not only that, but he is hands-on, engaged and goes above and beyond to support his students.
